We showed the Joint who we are at AAMC: Always Amazing Medical Care!
The parting words from the Joint Commission surveyors were, “Tell the staff ‘thank you’; everyone we met exemplified excellence, compassion, knowledge and a passionate drive to do what is right for patients and families.” Repeatedly, they used words and phrases like “phenomenal,” “amazing,” “incredible,” “the best we have seen,” and “stellar” to describe the people, programs and services of AAMC.
Five surveyors spent the week of November 18 talking with staff, looking at the environment, reading patient records, talking with patients, auditing documentation with the goal of assuring AAMC provides safe and quality care to the patients we serve. They toured inpatient and outpatient services. They talked with persons from every department.
Receiving our accreditation for three years is outstanding. Greater than the accreditation was knowing that the credentialing came as a result of the work the staff does everyday with each patient. It was not a special show for our surveyors. They had the opportunity to see the care, compassion and wisdom that is demonstrated at AAMC.
During the survey three areas of opportunity were found, all of which were addressed while the surveyors were on site:
- Electrical junction boxes
- Universal protocol usage in an outpatient office
- Tracking regarding tissue
Repeatedly they asked, “How do you do it? How can you have so many examples of excellence in your organization?” It is because of the staff who care for the patients. It is because of you, individually and collectively. At the end of the survey, one surveyor shared a poem about the meaning of excellence with us. Click here to read it.
