Want to make a difference in the life of another nurse? Become a Nurse Mentor.

AAMC’s Nursing Mentorship program has been going strong for almost nine years now. Since its inception, about 300 nursing new grads have had the opportunity to benefit from the expertise and wisdom of their specially selected Nurse Mentor. The importance of an effective mentor simply cannot be overstated.

The Nursing Mentorship program provides our nursing graduates with an opportunity to build relationships with more senior staff and ease the transition from the classroom to the professional world. It’s an essential part of their clinical and professional development.

We are always seeking to add Nurse Mentors to the program. If you have been a nurse for two years and have a passion for nursing, you are eligible. Maybe you had an amazing Nurse Mentor yourself… now you have an opportunity to do the same for someone else.

The new grads appreciate and adore their Mentors: “My mentor was awesome,” “Having a mentor was one of the best things about the Nurse Residency Program!”  Once nurse blogged about it here: Mentorship from a new grad’s perspective: “I came to her after my bad days — and guess what I got in return?”

To our current Mentors, why do you do it? Share your insight here.

Our next Nursing Mentor Workshop will be Thursday, January 21 from 8-10 a.m. in the Belcher Pavilion, 7th Floor. To register for the workshop contact clinedu@aahs.org. For questions about mentoring, contact Gena Kosmides at gkosmides@aahs.org.
