MNA Convention Right Around the Corner
This year’s Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) Convention will be held here at AAMC on Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 8. The theme is “Leadership for Healthcare Change – Navigating Today’s Healthcare.” For more information and to register online, visit www.marylandrn.org.
What should you expect at the convention?
Former AAMC Director of Clinical Trials and current MNA President, Patricia Travis, RN, PhD, CCRP, and our own Senior Vice President for Patient Care Service and Chief Nursing Officer, Sherry B. Perkins, PhD, RN, will be welcoming everyone on Thursday morning.
The keynote address will be given by Pamela Jefffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, entitled “Nurses Navigating Healthcare through the Use of Clinical Simulations.”
Two of our staff will be presenting during the convention! L&D’s own Holly Greever, RN and Robin Colchagoff, MSN, RNC will showcase “The Relationship between Team STEPPS and OB Simulations” on Thursday afternoon.
Several of AAMC’s advance practice nurses will be presenting on their role in healthcare and at AAMC during the poster session. The two best poster presentations will be voted on by attendees and the winners will receive the Mae Muhr Nursing Excellence Poster Award, a $500 prize. In exciting student news, this year the MNA Foundation received a donation that will cover the cost for 65 student nurses to attend the conference on Thursday, Oct, 7. If you are a student nurse, please check with your dean about taking advantage of this great opportunity—every college and university can send two students.
On Friday, our keynote address will be given by Deborah E. Trautman, PhD, RN, Executive Director for the Johns Hopkins Medicine Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Transformation. The Awards Luncheon keynote will be delivered by American Nurses Association (ANA) President Karen Daley, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN.
