“Honored,” “Proud,” and “Wow.” Our Magnet® site visit is complete.
Dear Nursing Staff:
Our Magnet® site visit is complete.
Today, the appraisers spent time at breakfast and lunch with physicians, informatics, medical, and clinical support staff, as well as day and night shift nurses. They visited Outpatient Infusion, Rad Onc, PAT, Cardiac Rehab, Breast Center and askAAMC. They reviewed Nursing Quality data, budget information, and spent time with hospital employees and community stakeholders.
Staff have shared with me that after meeting with the appraisers and hearing their colleagues present all the great work happening around the hospital, they feel an overwhelming sense of pride.
An afternoon session, in which physicians, clinical, and support staff were invited to dialogue with appraisers, was extremely well attended. In fact, the lead appraiser’s first word was, “Wow,” as she observed the packed room of 150 colleagues. The stories about their partnerships with nursing were truly touching. Your colleagues spoke of feeling “honored” and “proud” to work with AAMC nurses, how they have learned from us, and how they appreciate the high quality care we deliver. More than one staff member commented on the excellent collaboration we share and how they view our nurses as part of their AAMC family. In a later session, 150 community members representing schools of nursing, paramedics, city and county leaders, trustees, Maryland Hospital Association, others, and mostly grateful patients and families told of their care at AAMC.
The appraisers have said we will wait about three months to hear about our designation status. More to come on that and their description of our exemplary practices– and we keep doing what we signed up for – extraordinary care to our patients and families. I think Tony Wheeler, one of our auxilians, sums it up below “AAMC Nurses Rock.”
With warmest regards,
