Special Care Unit- In confused patients, what is the effect of a specialized altered mental status unit compared to a typical med surg unit on patient safety?
Edwards Surgical- In an adult surgical, patient does the use of a convective heating blanket maintain normothermia as compared to a standard blanket?
HVU/NCU- On the HVU/NCU, what is the effect of providing labels for IV tubing, education, and a standardized process on phlebitis/infiltration/infection rates and compliance with changing IV tubing compared with the current practice of no standard labels or process?
Mother Baby- In breastfeeding newborns, what is the effect of latch and suck within first hour of life on exclusive breastfeeding at discharge as compared to no latch and suck within the first hour of life?
MSU– In the medical surgical patient population, does bedside verbal report, using the SBAR method of communication, positively influence patient safety outcomes as compared with traditional communications for reporting?
OBS– In the adult in-patient population, does labeling IV sites, IV tubing and IV bags reduce IV complications compared to not labeling?
GSU– In an obese patient, could/would use of an incorrect blood pressure cuff lead to unnecessary or potentially harmful interventions?
CCU– In caring for adult patients on continuous sedation drip, is the Ramsey scale the most reliable and valid instrument to support clinical assessment of agitation and sedation when compared with the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS)?
ONC– Does appropriate antibiotic treatment, administered within the first hour of diagnosis, improve severely neutropenic patient outcomes?
Care Management- In Patients with CHF or COPD discharged from AAMC who have– a) Medicare Insurance (primary, secondary or managed, b) are at risk for readmission, and c) who live in Anne Arundel County; what is the effect of the Person-Centered Hospital Discharge Planning Program’s Transitions in Care Nurse Navigator teaching self-management skills on the length of time between readmissions to AAMC during a 6 month period after the intervention as compared to the same patients’ length of time between readmissions to AAMC in the 6 months prior to initiation of program?
PACU: In adult surgical patients with an identified risk of PONV, what is the effect of aroma therapy on the occurrence of PONV as compared to those that do not receive aroma therapy?
Preop: In adult surgical patients receiving general anesthesia, what is the effect of forced-air warming before induction of anesthesia on normothermia in the post-operative phase as compared to those that do not receive forced-air warming?
Radiation Oncology- For women receiving whole breast radiation, are current skin care recommendations supported by evidence?
OR- In patients having total knee/hip procedures, what is the effect of signs and deterrents on foot traffic into the operating room suites compared with those that didn’t have signs and deterrents.
ENDO– In patients receiving moderate sedation, what is the effect of continuous capnography monitoring on the assessment of respiratory status compared with only monitoring pulse oximetry alone?
NICU- In the NICU population, what is the effect of a 90 minute developmental care time on the NICU staff’s perception of the noise level on the unit compared with staff perception of the noise level on the unit prior to instituting the developmental care time?
L&D- In the exclusively breastfed infant, what is the effect of initiating skin to skin within one hour on the breastfeeding success rate compared with infants who are not placed skin to skin within on hour?
Risk Management- In patients who experienced a serious clinical adverse event while hospitalized, what was the effect of the disclosure of an adverse event on the patients’ hospital experience compared with patients who had not received an effective disclosure of this type of an event?
Patient/Family Advisory Council- Does providing patients and families with a daily list of prescribed medications while in the hospital improve patient satisfaction with nurse communication?
Clinical Education- In the adult learner, what is the effect of hybrid education (combination of classroom and online) on learner satisfaction compared with education which is exclusively in a traditional classroom setting?
Lab Administration– Validating Add on Tests to existing blood specimens.
Environmental- Single use microfiber mops versus traditional loop mops.
