Have you ever dreamed of becoming a champion? Here’s your chance!

The prevalence of diabetes continues to rise at an alarming rate — this is reflected on our inpatient hospital units, where approximately 30-50% of patients admitted have diabetes as either a primary or secondary diagnosis. How can you help improve the care given to this important patient population? Become a diabetes champion!

The diabetes team at AAMC, under the leadership of Barbara Onumah, MD, is revitalizing our diabetes champion program. We are looking for RNs, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, PTs, MDs and DOs who provide direct patient care and who are interested in becoming champions of effective and safe diabetes care. Champions will receive training that will equip them to be effective in their roles. Their primary responsibilities will be patient advocacy, leading initiatives on their units and coordinating patient and staff education.

Contact hours can be obtained for attending training sessions. For more details about the program and to learn how to apply, contact Karen McConnell, RN, CDE, at kmcconnell@aahs.org or x 5579.  -Barbara Onumah, MD
