AAMC staff support Baby Shower, benefiting families in our community
Each May, the Auxiliary holds an annual Baby Shower. Members bring in baby clothes and supplies, as well as monetary gifts, which are used to purchase items for making up layette bags. Baby outfits, tee shirts, blankets (which are hand-knitted or crocheted by our volunteers), socks, baby bibs, small toy items, and formula are collected.
One of our Women’s and Children’s volunteers, Auriol Lovering, takes all these wonderful donations home and puts together individual bags, designating whether they are for a girl or boy. She brings them back to the hospital, where they are distributed by volunteers who work on the Women’s and Children’s floors.
The Auxiliary has found this program to be a very successful and rewarding initiative. Last year, they opened the Baby Shower up to all AAMC staff—many families benefited from the generous additional donations.
Last month, a second all-staff Baby Shower was held in the cafeteria. Staff were invited to bring an unwrapped baby gift and enjoy cake and punch. Thanks to all those who participated!
The auxiliary has been giving out these wonderful layettes to AAMC’s needy families—including our NICU families—for over ten years. It is amazing to see how thankful and grateful these families are to receive such a generous gift. It is also very rewarding to be the person giving these gifts knowing they are so appreciated.
