Michelle Hayden, RN, is AAMC’s newest DAISY nurse!

Congratulations to Michelle Hayden, RN, AAMC’s most recent DAISY Award recipient. As per AAMC tradition, Michelle was surprised by a crowd of General Surgical colleagues and friends who secretly assembled on the afternoon of February 19th to pull off this big surprise.

Barbara Jacobs, AAMC’s Chief Nursing Officer, extended her congratulations presented Michelle with a DAISY certificate and DAISY Shona statue.  Eve Sage, Director of the General Surgical Unit, read the heartwarming nomination from a patient’s friend.

Here is an excerpt from Michelle’s nomination letter:

Our daughter experienced complications with ileus after a lapendectomy. Michelle was informative, showed compassion in her care and communication with our daughter and us, as parents. She was also innovative thinking out of the box to try to help her pain w/o as many drugs and to help her be comfortable. Michelle’s care and compassion and her commitment to excellent communications helped our daughter to finally be more comfortable and gave us peace of mind. We were sorry to see her shift come to an end because without her, our anxiety returned. Michelle has an excellent positive attitude and quiet, caring manner that instills trust, eases anxiety and gets the job done. She is an example for all nurses.
