Caring for colleagues: How the Women’s and Children’s team takes care of each other
Emergency Departments are often challenged with surges of mental health patients in the spring and fall. Pedatrics is no exception to this increase. While the pediatric mental health volume is up, so is the volume of viral illnesses presenting this time of year. The Pediatric Unit has been faced with some particularly challenging situations during the month of November. The Women’s and Children’s team recognized the impact on their colleagues and collaborated to present Pediatrics with a “wellbeing basket” filled with goodies. Everything from pens, hair ties, coffee, Advil, to cough drops and chocolate.
The effort was coordinated by Labor and Delivery RN, Kira Thrift. The team delivered the basket to Pediatrics, demonstrating an incredible show of support, teamwork, and friendship! Upon receiving the basket, pediatric nurse Mel Meushaw, RN, stated, “Wow, I have never felt more appreciated.” We appreciate this generous contribution and kind gesture shown to Pediatrics during an especially challenging time! -Jen Smell, MSN, RN, CCRN, and Melanie Lee, RN, MSN, CPN
