Sigma Theta Tau inducts AAMC Nurse leaders
On Wednesday, October 26, the University of Maryland chapter of Sigma Theta Tau inducted several AAMC nursing leaders into their chapter. This is the first time, perhaps in the country, where a chapter came to a hospital and sought out membership from our leaders. There are two paths to membership in Sigma Theta Tau – first by academic achievements, such as earning a BSN, and second, for experienced nurses, leadership and contribution to nursing. New and current members enjoyed dinner and an educational session, then the new members were inducted, receiving a purple tassel.
New members learned that Sigma Theta Tau means Love, Courage and Honor and was started by six nurses in the 1920s — it now reaches across the globe. We will plan to have another chapter meeting and educational session at AAMC in the spring. -Barbara Jacobs, MSN, RN-BC, NEA-RN, CCRN-K
