Celebrating the success of the ELNEC Core – Train the Trainer Conference at AAMC
The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project is an international education initiative to improve palliative care. The project provides training in palliative care with essential information to nurses, including undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, continuing education providers, staff development educators, specialty nurses in pediatrics, oncology, critical care, geriatrics and advanced practice nurses.
AAMC hosted an ELNEC Train the Trainer conference on Oct. 4-6. About 90 were in attendance from healthcare organizations throughout the region. Over the course of three days, they learned about communicating with and caring for patients and families, symptom and pain management, end of life ethics, and leadership.
These ELNEC trainers will go on to host professional development seminars for practicing nurses within AAMC and their institutions, incorporating ELNEC content into nursing curriculum, hosting regional training sessions to expand ELNEC’s reach into rural and underserved communities, presenting ELNEC at national and international conferences, coordinating community partnerships and improving the quality of nursing care in other innovative ways.
A huge thank you to Lil Banchero, MSN, RN, who led this initiative, and all who participated and attended.
