ACE staff present on implementation of the Quality Tech role at NICHE Conference
On April 12, 2018, the ACE Unit staff presented at the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The presentation they gave highlighted the implementation of the ACE Unit Quality Tech.
Recognizing that patients who experience functional decline are at a greater risk of not being able to return home following hospitalization, the ACE Unit implemented the Quality Tech role in May 2017. The Quality Techs ambulate the patients who have mobility tech orders from Physical Therapy. They then ambulate the remaining patients throughout the day – multiple times, as time permits. The Quality Techs also help with other quality measures such as Foley catheter care and Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) bathing.
Since implementing the Quality Tech, the ACE Unit has seen an increase in the distance ambulated in patients, and an increase in CHG and Foley care compliance.
