3 reasons you need to shop at the AAMC’s farmers market
Summer is almost here! Many of us have been waiting all year for the delicious fruits and vegetables that are only freshly available during these summer months. Eastern Shore peaches, anyone?!
AAMC’s Farmers Market will be back this year – and in case you needed a reason to shop there, here are three:
1. Remember what fruits and vegetables are SUPPOSED to taste like.
Would you describe those tomatoes you buy at the big box store as “juicy”, “sweet” or “complex”? Probably not. But eating a fresh tomato can be an amazing – and healthy – sensory experience: think about the aroma, taste, and texture of ripe fruit. Mmmmm.
Remember what fruits and vegetables are supposed to taste like by buying them fresh at the AAMC farmers market. No long-distance shipping, no gassing to simulate the ripening process, no sitting for weeks in storage. Taste real flavors!
2. Contribute to your personal wellness… get more nutrition from each bite.
Nutritional value sharply declines as time passes. Foods that have been sitting on shelves or in trucks are not as nutritious as those that have been freshly harvested. Enjoy some “farm to table” meals this summer!
3. Convenience!
AAMC’s farmers market opens Friday, June 3, from 10:30am to 1:30pm in the Southport lobby. The market will run every Friday, except for July 1 and September 2, through the end of October. Make a purchase by simply swiping your badge.
Treat yourself to the health that comes with eating fresh, local foods. See you there!
