IMPROVING COMMUNICATION IN THE WELLNESS DEPARTMENT (IN A BIG WAY!)
In the Wellness Department, our new six foot communication board is a big attraction (literally)! Results of our Wellbeing & Gallup Engagement Pulse survey indicated that staff members believed communication in the department could be improved. This was discussed in staff meetings and it was proposed that we develop a communication board that is visible and accessible to all staff. The request was quickly fulfilled and our new board was created.
The board is located in a central position in our office. It is designed to help bring attention to topics that may be overlooked or to simply shine light on what is happening here at AAMC and in the Wellness Department.
The information on the board is separated into six topics. Under “Professional Growth & Career Development,” staff can learn about courses that are to be completed in HealthStream or can take a quick glance at information from AAMC’s blog. In “Recognize Good Work,” there are kudos for a job well done and acknowledgements for staff achievements. The “Innovative Ideas” section is where staff are able to write their ideas for growth for the department and goals for the future. In the “Metrics” section staff can easily and quickly catch up on survey results. We share personal accomplishments such as weddings, births, and birthdays in the “Friends at Work” section. The last section is the “What’s Happening”, where staff can learn about events happening around AAMC and includes the current Dish information.
Everyone in the department works together to make sure that the information is up to date. Like most departments with staff who work different shifts, it can be difficult to get everyone in the same place at one time. With our new communication board, staff can stay up to date by simply checking out the board!
