In a new Health Connection Podcast, AAMC genetic counselor Aimee P. Martin, M.G.C., C.G.C., CG(ASCP), discusses the field of genetics counseling, the invaluable insight the field can provide patients, and what a typical genetics consultation entails.

“One of the Best Vacations;” e

In May 2009, two AAMC ICU nurses traveled to Nigeria to assist Edward Zebovitz, D.D.S., to provide oral and maxillofacial surgery to those in need. The ICU had no monitor, everything was manual and no wall oxygen was available. Holes in the ceiling allowed rain to come in and linens washed for patients were hung over shrubs and bushes to dry in the sweltering African sun. But the nurses worked with what they had, and made a plan.

AAMC to Host a Free Breast Imaging Community Forum

It was hard to miss the news reports, commentary, analysis following the November 2009 mammogram controversy, set into motion upon release of the screening mammogram recommendations of the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF). Understandably, after the fallout, much of the public remains unsure which screening recommendations are appropriate for themselves or their loved ones. AAMC wants to help. The medical center will host a free community forum on Monday, January 18, 2010, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., on the seventh floor of the AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion. We hope you can come.
