“At Work in the Community: AAMC Walks the Relay for Life” by Jan Clemons RN, BSN, OCN

Luminaries inscribed with cancer patients names were lit after dark on the night of the Relay for Life. “HOPE” is American Cancer Society theme for continued research, advancement, and treatment of all cancer diagnoses.

DeCesaris Cancer Institute was a proud participant in this year’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life, held on May 14-15 in Arnold, Maryland.

Anne Arundel Community College hosted this event with thousands of community volunteers, fund raiser groups from schools,  businesses, and individual families and friends.

The opening ceremony started at 6:30 p.m. with the survivors’ lap around the college track, then continued for twelve hours of walking, eating, laughing and reflecting throughout the night. Over 1,000 people turned out to support this cause.

The Relay for Life-Arnold event raised over $200,000, with DeCesaris Cancer Institute raising over $6000, making them one of the highest giving teams!

DeCesaris Cancer Institute, inpatient oncology unit, outpatient infusion center, and radiation oncology sponsored fundraiser events that included: Denim Day, Parole Car Wash, Bark for Life, Fudrucker’s sponsorship, and the Italian Basket raffle.

Thank you to each one who donated time, money and encouragement for this event. Please join us next year for Relay for Life 2011!
