A patient praises all GSU staff — and Heidi Smith and Allison Drummond “are what nursing is all about”
This patient wrote in to recognize our “excellent” General Surgical Unit – and three wonderful nurses who made a lengthy hospital stay feel more like home.
This is an extremely hard letter to write.
I was a patient on the 5th floor during the last few months and I had an opportunity to observe the working of your staff. Without equivocation, every one of your staff was excellent. To pick out one or two people to extol out of your group is almost impossible. That is what makes this letter so difficult to write.
I saw where Camille Armstrong, RN, had been chosen for employee of the month — great choice. I would recommend two others for employee of the month: Heidi Smith, RN, and Allison Drummond, RN.
My first encounter with the two of them was during a shift change. I was amazed that they seemed to anticipate each other’s needs, as they did later with their patient’s needs. Even when I was not assigned to them, they expressed interest and concern over my well-being. When we passed in the hallway they would have questions about how I was being cared for and how I was progressing.
When I was released, they both made it a point to stop by and say goodbye.
Heidi and Allison, in my opinion, are what nursing is all about. I cannot praise them enough.
