Comprehensive Inpatient Diabetes Service Pilot Program

Comprehensive Inpatient Diabetes Service Pilot Program

Program Overview and Services

The Inpatient Diabetes Management Service pilot program involves a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of an Endocrinology provider (MD, NP, PA), Diabetes educator, admitting physician, and patient care team. A full-time provider will perform clinical consultations for complex adult inpatients with or without a diagnosis of diabetes who are having issues with hyper- or hypoglycemia while admitted to the ACE unit. The provider will follow every patient they are asked to consult on each day until the patient has been discharged. Their main role will be to provide recommendations for a safe individualized insulin regimen to promote optimal blood glucose control and decrease hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

Key Dates and Times

Consults start June 1, 2016 and are available Monday through Friday, with weekend consults as needed. Comprehensive Rounds will also be completed Monday through Friday. The rounds are intended to allow staff nurses and providers to collaborate on each patient case.

For consultations please call the AAMC Operator. Endocrine and Diabetes consultation services will continue for the  rest of the hospital.
